McDowell County offers a strategic business location.  Interstate 40 intersects the center of the county in an east-west direction.  US 221 and Hwy 226 cross the county in a north-south direction.  McDowell County is 40-miles east of I-26, 68-miles west of I-77, 50-miles north of I-85 and 94-miles south of I-81.

McDowell County is 43-miles from the Asheville Regional Airport, 89-miles from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and 244-miles from the Atlanta International Airport.
McDowell County is served by both CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads.  The rail lines actually intersect at the famous "Clinch-Cross" location east of Marion.  McDowell County is 70-miles from the South Carolina Inland Port located in Greer, SC and is 272-miles from the Port of Charleston and 297-miles from the Port of Wilmington.
